From the jeepney terminal in Gaisano Mall, we rode a jeepney bound for Tabaco Albay. Our destination is the small town of Malilipot where it houses Busay Falls with it's 7 levels. Jeepney fare is P20 from Gaisano Mall to the jumpoff going to Busay Falls. After around an hour and a half of jeepney ride, you will be reaching the intersection with a sign heading to Busay Falls.
There are some tricycles waiting to pickup passengers on the jumpoff. You can walk but it is around 3KMs so you can just negotiate and use your haggling skills with the tricycle drivers. Usual price is 150 for a round trip ride. We were able to haggle and lower it to P120. Most part of the road is concrete though there are still some rough and bumpy parts. After around 10 minutes, you will reach the entrance to the falls. Entrance to the falls is P10/head and there is parking fee of P20 if you will be bringing your own vehicle.
I was surprised as the falls is a bit tall, though the width of the water flowing down isn't that much. The catch basin isn't that big and the water isn't that clear. There are tables and benches available at P100 each scattered through the premises. What I liked the most about Busay Falls is the are is very well kept and clean. We were looking for a shower room/changing room but unfortunately there isn't one. The only place you can change clothes is a make shift changing room made with pieces of wood and tarpaulin. There is no door or lock and the other side of the changing room is wide open though it is facing the side of the mountains >.<
After changing, it's now time to dip-in at the catch basin of the falls, or so I thought! The water is very cold, joined by the chilly winds and the cloudy weather, it took me sometime to get accustomed to the coldness before I got to dip my whole body in the waters.
The water in the catch basin not really that deep, except when you get really close to where the water drops. The bottom is made up of small and big rocks. It would be advisable to wear sandals or water shoes so that you are safe from sharp rocks.
After returning to our contracted tricycle, we asked him if he could take us to the Malilipot proper so that we can buy souvenirs, he agreed which increased our fare to P160 for four people. After around 20 minutes we reached the town proper and we checked out the abaca bags as according to the locals, it would be cheaper to buy here because the abaca bags in Legazpi all came from Malilipot. After buying bags and pili nuts souvenir, we ate some street food which also served as my dinner.
To go head back, we need to ride a jeep again with the route to Legazpi. It took us quite some time waiting for a jeepney which isn't full. After quite some time, a Legazpi bound jeep came but it only has 2 vacant seats so two would sit and the other two including me would sit on their laps >.<
It was a long ride again back to Legazpi as the jeep dropped us again back to Gaisano Mall and now we are headed for our last destination for the day: the Embarcadero de Legazpi.
