Subic Beach & Tikling Island of Matnog, Sorsogon

After enjoying the fishes at the fish sanctuary, it's now time to go beach bumming and the destination for that is Subic Beach and its famous pink sands. Who would have thought that there is hidden gem on the southern most part of Luzon.

Subic Beach is found on Calintaan Island, which is the southern part of the town of Matnog, Sorsogon. There are actually two stretch of Subic Beach, the one you could reach first was called by Manong Eddie as Subic Small beach and the other is Subic Big Beach. From the Juag fish sanctuary, it would take the boat around 20 minutes to reach Subic Small Beach.

We reached Subic Small first and we are welcomed by its very fine white sands with red dots of crushed corals that's why it looks pink from afar. The beach isn't that big and it seems like it has not been developed yet as I can see some cottages and benches that are not maintained very well. There is no entrance fee for the beach which is one of the good points for this beach. Anyways, there is nothing more left to do in here so we went back the boat and headed to Subic Big Beach.

See those red grains? That's what makes the sand looks like it is color pink

Upon reaching the shores of Subic Big, you can see the red dots in the sand more clearly. As explained by one of our boatman, the red grains in the sand is from the crushed red dead corals mixing in with the sand.

Subic Big is definitely larger than Subic Small and much more developed. There is electricity in the beach, lots of tables, benches and cottages for rent.

As much as I would like to enjoy the amazing bluish green color of the waters, the waves are just too strong as a typhoon has just passed by Sorsogon and the sky is still gloomy. After a round of photo ops and exploring the beach, we decided to move on as it is going late and the weather's condition is turning for the worse.

Aftet leaving Subic Beach, Manong Eddie decided to show us the rock formation and the cave on the edge of Calintaan Island. But the winds isn't playing nice with us as it got stronger and the waves get bigger and bigger. Rain also fell at some point in our boat ride that's why we weren't able to get close to the rock formations. According to our boatman, the rock formations is a great snorkeling spot.

Oh well, I guess that just gives me a reason to return again to this very beautiful place. :)

We are now headed to Tikling Island but the weather just keeps getting worse. The wind is getting colder and the rain drizzle won't seem to stop. After battling the waves for around 30 minues, our boat was able to safely arrive at Tikling Island.

Good thing the weather was with us during our stay at Tikling Island as the sun peeked a little bit from the dark clouds. Tikling Island is actually privately owned but still there is no entrance fee. There is only one hut in the island which is where the caretaker resides and a single table and bench outside.

In my opinion the white sands here in Tikling Island is finer and better than the pink sands of Subic Beaches. But definitely both beaches share the same water and gorgeousness of the scenery, so either of those, you will surely fall in love.

Tikling Island has a long stretch of white beach which is perfect for camping but you need to ask permission from the caretaker first before pitching your tents.

After a little bit of photo ops and having fun in the sands, it is now to head back to shore as we have still a long way to travel before reaching Legazpi.

Matnog port can be seen from the island but before reaching it, we still have to endure the 20 minutes boat ride along rough waves. After reaching the port, Manong Eddie was kind enough to let us use his home's bathroom so that we can clean up before catching a bus headed to Daraga, Albay.

There are a lot of things that I have missed on this Island hopping adventure that's why I promise that I will be back and make sure it's not rainy so that the seas will be kind enough and let me enjoy island hopping in Matnog, Sorsogon. :p
