Sumilon Island, Cebu

I dream of going to this Sumilon Island after reading across some Pinoy Travel Blogs. I've been wanting to try Glamping (Glamorous Camping) but its pricey. Well the tour for this is pricey with the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort(the only resort in Sumilon Island, and that only offers this Glamping experience). Good thing I've found out that there are cheaper ways to get into this Sumilon Island's sandbar but minus the Glamping experience. Just the sandbar.

When our Cebu Trip finally been booked, I immediately listed Sumilon Island in our itinerary. And we had some troubles with that, because right where we were in Cebu, it was scheduled on our 2nd day, but on our 2nd day we came late from Moalboal to Oslob. It was just after lunch when we arrived and I asked on staff around Aaron Beach Resort if its still good to go to this Sumilon Island, well, he told me that its still good but there is no sandbar that time because it was hightide, so what we did was just to resched it on our 3rd day early morning after our whaleshark watching experience.

On our third day, we were able to get to the earliest batch for the whaleshark watching, and it will lasts for 30 minutes so we had planned to take our breakfast after that and we head to Sumilon Island.

It was around 9am when we finally had an agreement with some boatman to take us to this Sumilon Island, this boatride I was telling was the cheaper way to get to Sumilon Island without spending too much for the Bluewater Sumilon Island Package if you would just like to enjoy just the sandbar. We agreed at the price of 1500 pesos to take us there and pick us up just after just an hour or so.

It was a 15-20 minute ride to the sandbar, I didn't experience any trouble with our boatride because as you can see our boat is larger than the usual, I mean its a boat for a family tour right? It's so big. it can accommodate up to 15-20 people maximum capacity I guess. And its because there are 4 other tourists with us that they are taking to the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort before they will drop us at the Sandbar.

They dropped off here the four tourist I've mention earlier, and I guess they have a package already with the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort.

The waters of Sumilon Island is indeed very clear. I am deeply inlove and delightful to see how clear the waters here.

After 20 minutes we arrived at the sandbar. Yes the sandbar!!! No, there is no sandbar that time :( It was hightide. :( That whitish area on the left side of the photo above was supposed to be the sandbar. And too bad, I didn't know when is the right time to go there to see the sandbar on a lowtide. It was our third day and we cannot resched it again because we're running out of time.

I'm standing on a staircase here near the sandbar, its a stairway to Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort, you can no longer enter further so we are just allowed to stay at the stairway only. There are staffs of Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort guiding the area so its impossible to tresspass :p

Even though there is no registration area or whatsoever just the sandbar, there is an entrance fee. Yes there is! 10 pesos entrance fee for Philippine Locals and 20 pesos entrance fee or Foreigners. :p

The waters in here at the end of the start of the supposed to be sandbar is just knee deep, and if you go farther, it will be chest deep and on and on. I didn't go farther, just until chest deep. I'm afraid I might drown! Haha. We don't have any lifevest so just for safety purposes, we just swam around the area.

We didn't stay for too long, just a quick swimming around and photo ops for about an hour and we contacted our boatman right after. We just had a goodtime, and maybe it will be way better if we had the sandbar at lowtide. We bid goodbye to Sumilon Island and head to Aaron Beach Resort to prepare our things because we were going back to Cebu City the same day.
